The travel zoom compact' market is one of the most popular around. Thus, Panasonic has announced a selection of new Lumix cameras including Lumix TZ70 and TZ57, which are designed to give you better photographic power than your smartphone while still being compact. The model also delivers full HD video capture at a resolution of 1920 x 1080p, and conveniently for videographers this can be saved in either AVCHD or MP4 formats. Although this tiny camera can shot the wonderful moments for us with a high definition image, it is difficult for NLEs including [b]FCP to afford Panasonic Lumix TZ70/TZ57 AVCHD[/b] files.
FCP X works well with AVCHD. It actually transcodes the MTS footage to FCP friendly format in the background to increase performance. However, you need to make sure you preserve the original file structure. Copy the whole card just as it is, onto your drive. Then from within the FCP X import window, navigate to the folder, and voila, you'll see the video clips and be able to import then as normal. That means in essence you will be duplicating your footage.
This was a pain for most uses. If you do have more time on your hands, you might consider transcoding Panasonic Lumix TZ70/TZ57 AVCHD to Apple ProRes directly using a program like [b]Brorsoft MTS Converter for Mac[/b]. With it, you can effortlessly encode AVCHD MTS footage for smoothly importing and editing in various non-linear editing systems (NLEs) including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Express .etc. Now, download the software and follow the instruction to learn how to import Panasonic Lumix TZ70/TZ57 MTS files into Final Cut Pro (X).
[b]How to Transcode Panasonic Lumix TZ70/TZ57 AVCHD to Apple ProRes[/b]
[b]1.[/b] Download, install and run the MTS to FCP Converter on Mac (Yosemite included); click "Add" icon to load your source .mts videos.
[b]2.[/b] Click "Format" option and navigate the mouse cursor to choose "Format > Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)" as the best codec for Final Cut Pro 6/7 and FCP X.
[b]3.[/b] Go to "Settings" page to adjust video/audio parameters if necessary.
[b]4.[/b] Tap the "Convert" icon under the preview window, and the Panasonic Lumix TZ70/TZ57 AVCHD to ProRes conversion will start immediately.
After the conversion, click "Open" to locate the result videos and then launch Final Cut Pro, choose File > Import > Files…, to import the converted TZ70/TZ57 MTS footage into FCP simply.
