For those and want to have the latest modestly priced 4K Handycam, Sony FDR-AXP35 which comes with the highlights including capture 4K Ultra HD Video, variety recording formats(XAVC S, AVCHD, and MP4), Exmor R CMOS Sensor and more might be the solution. Whereas, you will find it is a painful experience to import and edit 4K XAVC S videos from Sony FDR-AXP35 to FCP 7/X.

According to my testing, the 4K video was restricted to shooting and editing in Final Cut Pro (FCP X included), which handles 4K input and renders the output to 1080 HD. What’s more, the XAVC S code in not an ideal format for editing in FCP. Thus, if you want to import Sony AXP35 4K XAVC S to FCP 6/7/X, you will need to do some preparation before editing. The easy workaround I’ve worked out is to use 3rd-party to rewrap and convert Sony FDR-AXP35 footage to a more “editable” format for FCP in 1080p.

Converting Sony FDR-AXP35 4K footage to ProRes for Final Cut Pro

1. Download Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac

Overall, this program is a completely professional Mac 4K video converter, player and editor. Unlike some free video converters, it provides hundreds of output format presets such as Apple ProRes for Final Cut Pro, AIC MOV for FCE and iMovie, DNxHD for Avid Media Compsoer for better editing and playing. This 4K Converter is also available to customize the output resolutions to any size the users want. Thus, with the video converter app, you can fast transcode Sony FDR-AXP35 4K XAVC S to FCP most compatible ProRes .mov format with ease.

2. Launch the 4K converter Mac and click add button to import Sony AXP35 4k clips to the program for converting.

3. Click “Format” bar to choose the output format. You can freely choose Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov) for FCP.

Tip: Click the Settings button; you can recommended to set the video size, bit rate, fame rate, etc. Here you are recommended to set the video size as 1920*1080 for Final Cut Pro, which can’t support raw 4K video well.

4. Hit the Convert button to start the conversion; it will convert Sony FDR-AXP35 4K XAVC S to ProRes for FCP on Mac OS X. Soon after the conversion, just click “Open” button to get the generated files for natively editing in Final Cut Pro perfectly.
