Summary: You may find that Final Cut Pro won’t import Sony HX90V XAVC S videos smoothly. What you can do to resolve the issues is to transcode Sony HX90V XAVC S to a more “edit” friendly for FCP X/7.

I’m using the Sony DSC-HX90V to make a short film and we are shooting XAVC S videos with it. Is there an easy way that allows easy import XAVC S from Sony HX90V to Final Cut Pro directly, without having to use any complex plug-in. I’m seeking for the Sony DSC-HX90V XAVC S to FCP best workflow.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX90V is the world's smallest superzoom camera that can record full HD 1080p videos in AVCHD or in the high-quality XAVC S format at 50 Mbps in multiple frame rates. While, there are a few issues when it comes to viewing, importing and editing Sony HX90V XAVC S files in non-linear editing software like FCP. Luckily, I’ve figured out an effective way to import Sony HX90V footage to Final Cut Pro X or FCP 7 flawlessly. Share as below.

The XAVC S video included in DSC-HX90V is not compatible with FCP. To edit Sony HX90V XAVC S footage in FCP X or FCP 7 smoothly, a suggestion is to use Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac to transcode "XAVC S" to "ProRes", which is the a native support format by FCP.

With Mac XAVC S converter, you can effortlessly transcode Sony HX90V XAVC S files to ProRes- ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with FCP. Plus, it supports encoding XAVC/XAVC S to more video editing software compatible file types, i.e. DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, AIC MOV for iMovie 08/09/11, MPEG-2 for Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.

1. Download, install and run the XAVC S to FCP Converter; click “Add Videos” icon to load your source XAVC S videos from Sony DSC-HX90V.

2. Click the "Format" bar and select Final Cut Pro> Apple PreRes 422(*.mov) as output format. This format is specially designed for FCP, so that you can edit your original Sony HX90V video in Final Cut Pro perfectly.

Tip: You can click Settings to adjust video and audio parameters to get the best quality video.

3. Click the “Convert” icon under the preview window, and the Mac video converter will start converting Sony DSC-HX90V XAVC S to ProRes for Final Cut Pro on Mac.

When the conversion is finished, you can click “Open” button to get the generated Apple ProRes files effortlessly. Afterwards, you can launch your editing program to import converted XAVC S clips into FCP X/7 for smooth editing.
